Just like us, plants need nurturing, nourishing and care. these plants are quite robust in some ways and delicate in others. I hope that they made it to you safely!
A very Happy Birthday!!! xxxxx
Some instructions and guidelines for looking after the plants.
Succulents and cacti
These plants used to very arid and hot conditions so their designed to preserve water and cope with dry sandy and free draining soil. They need to be in a bright place but not in directly harsh sunlight, they need a little water maybe once a week, but they can tolerate the dry, they don't like their roots to be soggy for ages, so the compost they're in is free draining, although you can – I have soaked the pots for about 5- 10 mins. They may flower occasionally – enjoy it :)
If the little leaves come off the small ones you can re root them into the soil to expand the surface or make other baby plants (which will grow themselves to big ones) to give to your friends or make your own family of little plants perhaps?
They can take a long time to root so you need patience and light misting or watering is
Air plants
An Air plant is one that can just live on a shelf and grow all by itself. You can water it by misting with water, you can do this with the succulents too I understand, or by occasionally soaking them for 5-10 minutes once a week or perhaps even less frequently. - I'm sure there's more in-depth information online. One thing they told me in the shop, was that once you've finished soaking them gently shake the air plant upside down so that the water doesn't collect in the crevices and cause any rotting.
One of the plants is flowering, once the flower has bloomed and died a baby plant should begin to emerge, when it's ready it should come off almost by itself – then you've another one!
The Airplant on the hook can be hung somewhere and will look attractive hanging from a shelf; this too needs a misting once a week, or you can put it in a bowl of water for about 5- 10 minutes and then allow it to drain.
The cup, I made for you. It's one of two and the larger of them both. I hope you like it and enjoy using it or having it around.
Much love to you on your birthday and for each and every day ahead,
Dad X
